Tech Lead - Frontend Development

Responsibilities

As Tech Lead - Frontend Development, you will technically lead a small team of frontend engineers building modular, high-performance interfaces that power Nexus, the command and control interface for unmanned systems, connecting them across air, land, and sea to provide a common operational picture. With integrated onboard AI, Nexus enables intelligent autonomous missions even in the most demanding environments.

This role combines hands-on development with technical leadership, architectural decision-making, and a strong focus on maintainability and quality.

In practice, this means: 

• Provide technical direction and support to a team of frontend developers working with Svelte and TypeScript

• Design and maintain a scalable, component-driven architecture for a real-time, information-rich UI

• Collaborate closely with product managers and designers to clarify requirements and deliver intuitive user experiences

• Drive code quality through testing, reviews, standards, and shared learning practices

• Support the team to take ownership of long-term frontend technical direction, performance, and maintainability

What Success Looks Like in Your First Year

• You have led the delivery of intuitive UI features that significantly improve real-time situational awareness

• The front-end team feels supported, motivated, and able to collaborate effectively

• You have shaped the architectural foundation for a scalable frontend codebase

• You have established clear development practices, code standards, and healthy feedback loops

• Your work has been validated through real-world field testing and operational deployments

What You Will Bring

We are looking for someone who is motivated by clarity, performance, and craftsmanship and takes pride in building interfaces that make complex systems feel intuitive. You are comfortable balancing leadership with being hands-on, and you care deeply about helping others grow.

This includes: 

• 5+ years of experience building complex, real-time frontend applications using JavaScript, TypeScript, HTML, and CSS

• Proven experience working across multiple JavaScript frameworks (e.g., React, Vue, Angular, Svelte) with a framework agnostic mindset

• Experience technically leading or mentoring a small team of engineers (3–6 people)

• Strong skills in modular, component-driven architecture and UI state management

• Familiarity with build pipelines such as Vite or Rollup, and Git-based workflows

• Comfortable integrating with backend services and data-rich, real-time systems

• A proactive, team-oriented mindset that helps others move forward

Nice to Have: 

• Experience with Svelte or SvelteKit

• Background in design systems, component libraries, or frontend testing (e.g., Playwright, Vitest)

• Affinity with defense, robotics, or other mission-critical systems
